THE PHOENIX RISING - THE AFTERMATH

Summary of the weekend

All day long the joint force tried to bust their way in to ultra-nationalists camp and every time they just got booted back out again. However 13 hours later they got their lucky break when they launched a series of night time raids and retrieved the Russians commanders laptop along with various pieces of documentation from around the camp. Information held on the laptop revealed the locations of the TX60 container boxes, which further led to more successful raids whereby 3 of the TX60 containers were seized by the US and Azerbaijan forces. Along with this, another raid against the SATCOM building enabled the US led forces to seize control of the Russians satellite communications equipment. This was very fortunate due to the US forces losing their own SAT Phone because of a malfunction of the equipment.

The seizure of the SATCOM equipment enabled the CIA operatives to prolong their communications with Langley and thus giving them the continued fire support offered by the two operating predator drones. Finally they managed to locate and seize control of the two silver cases containing the chemical-suits; this allowed the U.S. DOD and the Azerbaijan biological and chemical weapons experts to safely inspect the containers to check all the nerve agent cylinders were present and intact. Finally the surface to air missile launchers were destroyed allowing the Chinooks to come in for the extraction.

It was good to see so much action going so deep in to the night. Most 24hr events seem to dwindle down to nothing by about midnight or by 1am but there were pockets of fire-fights erupting every now and again all night long. It sounded like you guys were keeping yourself busy.

The fighting in the morning started with US & Azerbaijan forces holding the ground almost up to the middle square. But due to the ultra-nationalists having a mortar section on the adjacent hill, it was not long before the US forces were beginning to be pushed back again.

But then came the mortar shell on building 18. With a couple of lucky hits, building 18 was destroyed taking everything with it, including the nerve agent and because of this the situation rapidly changed. I apologise now over the mix up with the cease-fire after building 18 was taken out, it was a mis-communication and was rectified almost immediately.

At this point the US/Azerbaijan force had lost the SATCOM, nerve agent containers, the Russian commanders laptop amongst some other document that could be used for Intel. Luckily the call to order the Chinook extraction had already been made before the SATCOM equipment was lost.

At this point, only one nerve agent container still existed and that was in building 11 (the laboratory). At around 1120hrs this building was targeted by the Russian mortar section. Again, a shell found its mark and took out the best part of the building. Only this time there was no nerve agent contamination as the box was in a sealed and secure area within the lab. This was pointed out to several players that were in the vicinity at the time. In other words, the building was destroyed but the nerve agent was not and was only buried but still intact under the rubble.

But the CIA SAD did manage to successfully extract a large amount of documents found at the site and these are currently being examined by Intel officers at Langley.

So here is the objective summary:

Russian managed to secure the weapon technicians and prevented them from being assassinated by the CIA SAD.

Russian still have one box containing 5 canisters of TX60 nerve agent pulled from the rubble of the Laboratory.

So it would appear that the Russians walked away from the operation still capable of carrying out their plans, and for that reason the US led force failed. However, the US forces did manage to extract a number of documents that could lead to them towards preventing the ultra-nationalists carrying out their plans at a later stage.

There was also a point based system in the game based on casualty rates and points allocated to objectives, but this is more used as a comparison of team performance.

The numbers are:

Russian Regens: 365
US Regens: 221

To create realistic figures, I decided before the event that 15 regens would be the equivilant of 1 KIA and using historical data from battles of the 20th century I could then work out the estimated “KIA’s” vs “seriously wounded” vs “lightly wounded”.

The figures are:

Russian ultra-nationalists….

24 KIA
18 Seriously wounded of which 4 died during treatment leading to a total 28 KIA
42 Lightly wounded

US & Azerbaijan….

14 KIA
10 Seriously wounded of which 2 died during treatment leading to a total 16 KIA
25 Lightly wounded

So based on the point system the final score would have been:

Russian ultra-nationalists = 79 points
US/Azerbaijan Force = 69 points

Whatever way you look at it, it would seem the Russians had the upper hand on that weekend.

Well that was Phoenix Rising – The opening shots of war. Phoenix Rising - The Battle of Sheki Forest is scheduled for 6th/7th September at Pippingford Park in East Sussex. This will be a woodlands based weekend game with approximately 200 available places. More information will be released for this event during early June.

So the phoenix has risen and the opening shots of the war were fired. But this is only the beginning.....
